The Taiwan Scholarship Program, offered by Taiwanese government, is aimed to support foreign students interested in pursuing degree-leading studies in Taiwan. The scholarship recipient, if undertaking undergraduate studies in Taiwan, will receive a stipend of NT$25,000 per month for up to four years; for master program students, NT$30,000 per month for up to two years; and for doctoral students, NT$30,000 per month for up to three years. Recipients, if necessary, may attend Language Enrichment Programs (LEP) in university-affiliated Chinese Language Centers in Taiwan for up to one year before commencing their degree programs. A stipend of NT$25,000 per month will be provided as well. Scholarship stipends will be made available to recipients on a monthly basis in care of universities or language centers. Recipients will be responsible for their international airfares, registration fees, tuition fees, insurance, food, accommodations and other miscellaneous expenses. To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements: (1) having an outstanding academic record, and good characters; (2) not being overseas Chinese students or foreign students who are concurrently holding a Taiwan nationality; (3) not being exchange students, nor in receipt of any other scholarships from any other Taiwan government agencies in Taiwan. Applicants are responsible for their application process to the universities/colleges or language centers they wish to attend. Recipients must also be able to commence their study in Taiwan in the fall semester of 2006. Six scholarships are
available for interested students in the states of New York, New Jersey,
Connecticut and Pennsylvania to compete. All applications must be submitted
to The Cultural Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in
New York (Address: 1 East 42nd Street, 6th Floor, New York, NY 10017)
before the end of March, 2006,
